FELIX COOK BAND GETS RAVE REVIEWS from VH1! –February 14, 2012

Today our school was visited by two very special guests, Ms. Jaclyn Shea, Program Manager of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, and Mr. Walter Smith, Houston I.S.D. Fine Arts Coordinator. Our school has received a grant in support of our band program from the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, and representatives from VH1 like to visit our school (and other schools whose band programs they have supported) each year to see how our band program is doing.

After these two guests observed our 5th grade band class in action, Ms. Shea told our band students that she travels to many elementary schools around the country, and has visited over 200 elementary schools and listened to their bands and that our Felix Cook band is the best 5th-grade band that she has ever heard! This is quite a compliment, and we are proud of all of our band students.

I told Ms. Shea that our band students in the other grades (4, 3, & 2) are also very impressive, accomplished young musicians. Ms. Shea encouraged our 5th grade band students to stay in band and practice hard so that one day they can audition on their instrument for a college band and get a scholarship to go to college for free like she did.
